Great year for spring wheat in Minnesota

2015 is shaping up to be a great wheat year for Minnesota.  David Torgerson, executive director of the state association of wheat growers, says conditions for the spring wheat crop have been cool and moist.

“Things are looking really good across most of Minnesota.”

He tells Brownfield it was not a perfect start to the growing season, however.

“It was dry right away, so there were some places that had poor emergence.  But then we got the rain and the second flush of wheat; some fields have two crops out there.”

Torgerson says the last couple years have been pretty good for spring wheat in Minnesota, but thinks this crop might be a little bit better.
