Energy efficiencies save farmers money

Programs ICON

Farmers making energy efficiency improvements can earn rebates with Consumers Energy.

Duane Watson with Consumers Energy says incentive programs are available to several types of farms.  “These measures work with farmers in the areas of greenhouses, farmers that irrigate crops or orchards, our dairy farmers, livestock operations, and farmers that do grain drying with natural gas.”

He tells Brownfield incentives are offered on electronic controls for motors and lighting.  “We only incentivize if they can return the investment on the purchase in one to eight years.”  Watson says farmers can save from 10 to 25 percent on energy costs, and will continue to save money during the life of the product.
