Trade mission helps develop markets for Indiana ag

Indiana delegation visits China

Agriculture is the focus of Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann’s trade mission to China.  She says delegates have spent much of the trip building relationships to help develop market access for the state’s agricultural industry.  “We know we want more of our feed going into their meat operations,” she says.  “Their hog operations are large over here – it’s one of their primary, if not their primary, protein source.”

And she tells Brownfield the trade mission has also been a chance to highlight high quality agricultural goods that come from Indiana.  “Even they recognize the soybeans they are getting out of the Gulf of Mexico are higher protein,” she says.  “And helping them distinguish it is Indiana where those good quality products come from.  So yes – we’re working to build those first initial relationships.”

The Lt. Governor’s Trade Mission concludes this weekend.
