“Our land is borrowed from our children”

h2014_Indiana_soybeans_summerConcerns about soybean sustainability and consumer acceptance around the world are being discussed between soybean growing countries at a gathering in Chicago.

The United Soybean Board (Check-off), U.S. Soybean Export Council and American Soybean Association are hosting the 18th International Oilseed Producers Dialogue.

USB Chairman Bob Haselwood, a soybean grower in Kansas, says soybean farmers do things pretty much the same worldwide, “We do care about the environment and just try to talk with consumers or people and tell them how – that we’re just like them. We care for our family.”

A fifth generation farmer from Argentina, Pedro Bigneau, says sustainability is never an afterthought, “I think that our land is borrowed from our children so we must be really aware of what we are doing with our land. And, that’s the way we do things.”

Today, participants will tour farms in northern Illinois.
