Iowa Soybean to host water quality open house

iowa river-ifbfEfforts by Iowa farmers to improve water quality will be showcased during a water quality open house this Wednesday, July 1st at the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) campus in Ankeny.

ISA spokesman Aaron Putze says it’s a unique opportunity to view technologies and on-farm practices that improve agriculture’s environmental performance.

“We’re going to be showcasing a working bioreactor, owbow restoration, conservation tillage, terraces, waterways and saturated buffers,” Putze says. “We’re going to have farmers on hand talking about those practices that they use on their farms, the opportunities that exist, as well as the management challenges that accompany those kinds of practices, including the use of cover crops.”

The event is open to everyone.  And Putze says they’re making a special effort to reach local and state leaders who have water quality questions and concerns.

“We’ve invited public works directors, water utility directors, members of city councils, chambers of commerce and legislators,” he says, “and we want to showcase the interconnectedness that we as Iowans have on what is arguably the most important issue facing our state.”

The open house runs from 3-5 p.m. this Wednesday.  For more information, click here.
