Nebraska Farm Bureau: RFS changes hurt agriculture

nelson-steve 2-15 editThe president of Nebraska Farm Bureau says the EPA is jeopardizing a key segment of Nebraska agriculture by failing to meet the blending requirements for ethanol as outlined by Congress.

Steve Nelson was one of several Nebraskans who testified at the recent hearing on the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) in Kansas City, Kansas.

“The message was clear that the proposed changes to the RFS from EPA are not what both Congress intended and what would really be best for the rural economy and the economy of our country,” Nelson says.

Nelson says he emphasized the synergy that exists between corn, cattle and ethanol in the state, a combination that he says has bolstered Nebraska’s rural economy and lifted Nebraska’s economy as a whole.

In May, EPA proposed modifications to reduce the blending requirements for ethanol below levels established by Congress in the RFS.
