Groups say ruling on Obamacare to help rural America

Rural Issues copySeveral groups whose members are in rural America are applauding Thursday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare.

National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson says the provision that was upheld will “make health care coverage affordable for American family farmers and ranchers.”  Thursday’s decision, in a vote of 6 to 3, preserves health insurance tax credits in 34 states.

Johnson says it’s a win for rural Americans, who are “disproportionately uninsured compared to urban Americans.”

John Crabtree, with the Center for Rural Affairs in Nebraska, says the high court “focused on interpreting the intent of Congress” to “create a health insurance marketplace for every eligible American” and provide incentives to lower income and moderate income families to make insurance more affordable for them.
