A $2 million endowed chair for organic agriculture is being established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The funding comes from a $500,000 gift from Organic Valley, a $500,000 gift from Clif Bar & Company with matching funds from U.W. Madison alumni John and Tashia Morgridge.   The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) chair will be dedicated to developing new crop varieties for organic farming.

The chair will be awarded to a CALS faculty member selected by Dean Kate VandenBosch in conjunction with CALS faculty.  The recipient will hold the chair for seven years after which a new chair will be selected.

Based in Wisconsin, Organic Valley is the largest organic farmer co-op in the country and supports a number of programs and organic cropping research at the University.

Clif Bar & Company of California makes organic foods and drinks with a focus on sports nutrition.  The company already provides funding for plant breeding and plant genetics students at Wisconsin.
