Plenish™ possibilities increase
The makers of Plenish™ High-Oleic soybeans see continued growth for the product now that the Food and Drug Administration has decided to have artificial trans-fats removed from processed foods.
Russ Sanders with DuPont Pioneer tells Brownfield this decision has been a long time coming, “You can go back as far as 2002 when FDA first started signaling that trans-fats were problematic. And, at that time, of course, we had almost 50% of all soybean oil going into the food market in the U.S. was hydrogenated which means it had trans-fats. And, so, this has been a big deal for the soybean industry and I think it’s one of the reasons why we’re really excited to have a product like Plenish to help fill the gap here for this lost market.”
Plenish soybean oil has zero trans fats and other health properties that make it comparable to olive oil. Sanders says several hundred thousand acres of Plenish beans are being planted this 2015 crop year.
