Township moves to block large dairy

Wood County

Officials of a township in Central Wisconsin are trying again to halt construction of a large dairy farm.  The Wysocki Family wants to build Golden Sands Dairy; a 5,300-animal dairy farm on 7,000 acres in the Town of Saratoga in south Wood County.  When they applied for the building permits, Township officials placed a moratorium on issuing permits until they were able to pass new zoning laws.

Wysockis filed suit against the town’s building inspector for refusing to issue the permits and the Township for the zoning laws.  Portage County Circuit Judge Thomas Eagon, substituting in a Wood County case ruled on April 30th the farm had the right to move forward with construction and ordered the permits be issued.  The Town of Saratoga has filed notice that they will appeal that ruling.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is in the process of reviewing the environmental impact report and Wisconsin Pollution Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) application for the farm
