Low interest loans available to Minnesota poultry producers

The Minnesota Legislature has appropriated 10 million dollars to the state Rural Finance Authority to assist poultry producers affected by avian flu.

Loan manager Ryan Roles says RFA will work with ag lenders across Minnesota.

“What that means is we can purchase up to 45 percent of the loan.  What we have right now is zero percent on that loan for farmers affected by the avian influenza.”

He tells Brownfield the program is for producers of commercial poultry or game flocks and the proceeds can be used to replace birds, make building improvements or cover a loss of revenue.

“That revenue could be that if they are a contract grower, that it could help replace some of that contract income that they’ve lost.”

Roles says the maximum loan amount is 200,000 dollars and RFA is now taking applications.
