High oleic soybeans highlight Korean delegation’s visit

A USSEC Korean trade delegation visits Mike Beard's Frankfort, Ind. farm.

A Korean trade team has been in Indiana this week learning more about US soybeans.  Say Young Jo, US Soybean Export Council Country Director says Korea is a large importer of US soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil.

He says this trip has been an opportunity for the delegation to learn more about high oleic soybeans.  “By bringing high-oleic soybean oil or by bringing high oleic soybeans that are processed into oil in Korea, they learned they can save the processing cost,” he says.  In addition, he says the delegation learned how high oleic soybeans help end users extend the shelf life of their oil without adding trans-fats to it.

The delegation visited Mike Beard’s Frankfort, Indiana farm.  He says visits like this provide a great opportunity for farmers.  “It’s the greatest opportunity that we can have to tell our story and get to know their needs and tell them that we are trying to do the best we can to meet their needs,” he says.

While in Indiana, the delegation also visited with Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, Director of Agriculture Ted McKinney, as well as a soybean crushing facility.
