Rain impacting forage crops too

Wave after wave of rain events is having an impact on not only corn and soybeans in Northwest Ohio, but forage crops too.

“In a normal year it’s a skill and an art and a science to put hay up in a dry bale,” said Bruce Clevenger, Extension educator in Defiance County Ohio. “Given a year like 2015 that challenge has again caused frustration and delays and many of those acres are still out, uncut, growing in the field and as you can imagine more mature than farmers normally like to have their first cutting.”

Clevenger says the wet conditions will also challenge the wheat crop. The OSU Extension educator says for those wheat fields that did not receive a fungicide treatment, Fusarium head scab is a concern.
