House tanks TPA

The House has in effect, rejected Trade Promotion Authority for the President.  In a surprise move, House Democrats helped defeat Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for those hurt by trade deals 302 to 126.

The House then passed a Trade Promotion Authority bill 219 to 211 but without the TAA provision.

The TPA bill would have to go back to the Senate which is unlikely to approve it without TAA.

Speaker John Boehner introduced a motion to reconsider TAA on Friday, the vote on that motion is expected to take place on Tuesday.
