Farm Bureau’s Paap sums up WOTUS in four words

Kevin Paap

The President of Minnesota Farm Bureau says four words sum up the nearly 300 page Clean Water Rule issued by EPA, calling it “even worse than before.”

Kevin Paap tells Brownfield the new rule is even broader than the proposed rule.

“The American Farm Bureau (has) identified some serious problems and significant impacts on farmers and ranchers.  The bottom line is it’s really more about regulating land use than protecting our water.”

He calls the rule very confusing and science-based.

“Whether it’s a tributary, a significant nexus, all waters adjacent being automatically regulated.  One of the big concerns from a Minnesota perspective is every prairie pothole will be regulated.”

Paap says the new rule will also allow EPA to remotely discover tributaries without ever setting foot on a farm.  Farm Bureau is working with Congress to help them understand how significant the rule is, not only to farmers and ranchers, but all property owners.
