BOAH opens public comment period

IBOAH

The Indiana State Board of Animal Health is taking public comments on the temporary bird movement ban.  BOAH says the goal of the virtual public hearing is to gather input on ways to make exhibitions, fairs, swap meets, and sale barns healthier for poultry and reduce disease exposure.

The ban was put in place May 27 and is likely to remain in effect until the end of 2015 in order to protect Indiana’s poultry from exposure to the H5 avian influenza virus.

Dr. Bret Marsh, Indiana State Veterinarian says they are looking for ways to restore public bird events that will reduce opportunities for diseases to spread.

Comments can be submitted through July 1 – a link can be found HERE.

  • I was trying to get in touch with someone about birds being at a county 4-H fair. Everyone had agreed not to have any birds in the show but there were brought anyway and showed in the Mini Show at Crawford County’s fair last night. My comment is that I am not sure what can be done that is feasible when nobody is listening now even with all the suggestions that have already been given.
