Wisconsin NRCS meetings set

LWG map 2015

USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service will hold 21 Local Working Group (LWG) meetings across Wisconsin in July and August.  The meetings will be held to gather input and help set priorities for conservation programs.  State Conservationist Jimmy Bramblett says each LWG will represent two or more counties according to geography, similar land use, resources and type of agriculture.  Most LWGs have three counties and one group in northeaster Wisconsin has seven.  Bramblett says that will allow greater flexibility and access to funding for the groups.

The main program to be discussed at the meetings will be the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) which is authorized through 2019.  As of May, Wisconsin has received $19.6 million in EQIP funding for this year.

The meetings are open to the public, anyone interested in becoming a member of an LWG should contact their local NRCS Conservationist.  A full schedule of the meetings is available here.
