Rain shuts off Missouri fieldwork

Rain this past week averaging 2.46 inches stopped most Missouri fieldwork.  Almost half the state’s topsoil moisture is adequate, the rest is surplus. Corn planting reached 87 percent complete.  Normally, it’d be about done by this time.  Soybean planting is only 23 percent complete, compared to 74 percent done last year and 57 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat is rated 91 percent fair to good, and 3 percent excellent. Rice planting reached 87 percent complete. Cotton planting is 82 percent complete. Pastures are 72 percent good to excellent.
