A lot of planting progress in a week

GillisField

Just over a week ago, about 5 percent of east central Indiana farmer Elaine Gillis’ corn crop was planted and her outlook wasn’t great for the 2015 planting season.  But with warmer temperatures and some missed storms – Gillis says she’s feeling a lot better about their planting progress this week.  “We were really able to get into the fields for the first time last Friday,” she says.  “On our farm – we’re about 80 percent finished on corn acres and we’re just starting bean acres.”

She tells Brownfield technology has been beneficial in getting the crop planted this year.  “It’s helped with locating areas that are more adaptable to the conditions because we haven’t been planting in “prime conditions”, she says.  “But they are better than what we were expecting and they’ve allowed us some forgiveness in our management practices more than anything.”

Gillis says with a few more days of sunshine – they should finish up corn planting soon.
