Congress may try to block WOTUS implementation

U.S.CapitolSeveral farm-state members of Congress are expressing frustration with the EPA after the agency released its final Clean Water Act rule.

House Ag Committee ranking member Collin Peterson says he’s disappointed that EPA moved forward with a rule that, in his words, “would increase confusion and red tape”. Iowa Senator Joni Ernst questions whether the EPA gave serious consideration to comments submitted by the ag sector.

Nebraska Farm Bureau president Steve Nelson tells Brownfield he expects Congressional action to block implementation of the rule.

“To either restrict funding or to have legislation that would repeal the rule—or, at least, to take the authority away from EPA to do this,” Nelson says.

The House has passed legislation to kill the rule and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is expected to act soon on a similar bill.  But the Obama administration has promised to veto any such legislation and it is considered unlikely that there would be enough votes in Congress to overcome a presidential veto.

  • Pretty much the govt will control all the water in the country and all property with any water on it. The word tyranny comes to mind.
