Ohio corn and soybean planting advances

Corn in NW Ohio_052315 (1)_webAs of Sunday, May 24, corn planting in Ohio was 87 percent complete, a 10 percent gain from the week before and 17 points ahead of the 5-year average. 68 percent of the crop has emerged and 81 percent of the crop is in fair-to-good condition.

One fourth of the Ohio soybean crop was planted last week. Soybean planting in now 71 percent complete, 24 percent ahead of the 5-year average. 38 percent of the soybean crop has emerged.

The Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) reports 90 percent of the wheat crop jointing, 36 percent is headed, well behind the 53 percent 5-year average. 80 percent of the wheat crop is in fair-to good condition.

Oats planting is nearly complete at 94 percent, 84 percent of the crop has emerged.

81 percent of the pastures in the state are in fair-to-good condition.

Topsoil moisture in Ohio is 86 percent adequate to surplus.
