Rain slows Missouri planting

An average of an inch and two-tenths of rain limited Missouri corn planting progress to three percentage points this past week.  Corn planting is now 85 percent complete, behind last year’s 96 percent and behind the average.  More than three-quarters of the crop is emerged.  The rain brought Missouri’s topsoil moisture supply to 100 percent adequate to surplus. Subsoil moisture is slightly behind that. Soybean planting is 20 percent complete, compared to 57 percent a year ago.  It’s also behind the average pace.  Winter wheat is 91 percent fair to good.  Only 4 percent of the crop is excellent. Rice planting is 78 percent complete. Cotton planting is 76 percent complete. Pastures are 85 percent fair to good, and 13 percent excellent.
