Nebraska poultry events will continue

chickens at county fairDespite two recent outbreaks of avian influenza in northeast Nebraska, state officials say they’re not banning poultry shows at county fairs, the state fair or other events.

But Nebraska director of agriculture Greg Ibach says they will reevaluate that decision as the summer progresses.

“If, for some reason, we think that we could pose a threat to the poultry industry by allowing those exhibitions to take place, then we might have to work with 4-H and FFA to do what’s right to protect our poultry industry,” Ibach says.

Several states have banned poultry events because of the avian flu.

Ibach discusses the state’s avian flu situation in this interview with Brownfield.
