Wisconsin lifts one avian influenza quarantine

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has released the quarantine on the mixed poultry flock in Juneau County.  The flock of 33 birds was confirmed to have the H5N2 avian influenza virus on April 16th.  The flock was depopulated and extensive testing and monitoring in the area have found no further infections.  The ban on poultry shows and swap meets remains in effect for Juneau County.

State Veterinarian Dr. Paul McGraw cautions this is not the time to back-off on surveillance.  He says as long as the virus might still be in the environment, there is a need to closely watch birds for signs of any illness.

While it has been two weeks since any new infections have been found, quarantines remain in-place around the nine other infected sights in Wisconsin.
