Conservation compliance deadline approaching

The USDA’s Conservation Compliance deadline is a few weeks away.  Chris White, Michigan Farm Service Agency State Executive Director, says farmers who have never filed for Highly Erodible Land Conservation and Wetland Conservation Certification, and only have crop insurance need to apply.

“If you purchase crop insurance and you have never filed an AD-1026, please stop by our office and file the certification by June 1st.”

White tells Brownfield farmers who do not apply will no longer be eligible for a premium subsidy for the 2016 crop year.

She says if farmers print off the online form, they should contact their local Farm Service Agency to make sure they understand the USDA language used.

“We’ve had producers who have simply printed one off, marked it and sent it in.”  She tells Brownfield, “We’ve realize that it’s incorrect and we’ve had to send it back.”

Farmers can learn more at www.fsa.usda.gov or by visiting their local FSA office.
