What next for TPA bill?

Programs ICONThe National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says there are other avenues for getting a Trade Promotion bill through Congress now that Senate Democrats have blocked debate on a fast track trade bill.

NCBA’s Collin Woodall says they were “extremely disappointed” with Tuesday’s vote but this is not the end of TPA, “There are many more opportunities here to get the Senate on the floor., to fight for the opportunity to actually debate the bill and then, ultimately, have a TPA vote later this year.”

NCBA is urging cattle producers to get involved, “We’re putting out a call to everybody who’s listening. Call your member of congress but especially call your two senators and tell them they have got to vote to put TPA on the floor for debate.”

Trade is a $7 Billion market for U.S. beef, and Woodall says, the U.S. won’t be able to tap further into Pacific Rim markets if TPA doesn’t pass. He says it’s necessary in order to close the Trans Pacific Partnership deal.
