TPA to get another chance

A deal has been reached to move forward with a vote on trade promotion authority.  The Washington Post reports an announcement from Senate leaders that they’ve agreed to consider fast track authority for President Obama.

The plan includes provisions wanted by Democrats.  That includes separate legislation targeting China’s alleged currency manipulation to make its exports cheaper as well as measures for enforcing trade deals.  Once that’s taken care of, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the Senate will consider Trade Promotion Authority.  If that’s passed, it could make it easier to eventually approve the Trans-Pacific Partnership being negotiated with 11 Pacific-rim nations.
