Warm, wet pattern to continue across the Heartland

Generally cool conditions will dominate the nation during the next few days, although warmth will return across much of the central and eastern U.S. toward week’s end. Frost could be a threat into Tuesday morning across portions of the central Plains. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms will gradually weaken while sweeping into the eastern U.S. However, rain will linger across the south-central U.S., where 5-day totals could reach 2 to 6 inches. Farther east, the remnants of Tropical Storm Ana will depart the Mid-Atlantic Coast by Tuesday. Elsewhere, showery, unsettled weather will return to the West, especially late in the week.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-normal temperatures across the eastern half of the U.S. and in parts of the Northwest, while cooler-than-normal conditions will stretch from California to the central and southern Rockies. Meanwhile, near- to above-normal rainfall across most of the U.S. will contrast with drier-than-normal weather in parts of the Southwest.
