Eight more cases of avian flu in Minnesota

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health reported eight presumptive positive cases of avian influenza in commercial poultry flocks Monday.

Nicollet County reported its first detection in a flock of over 1.1 million chickens.

The other cases involve turkeys, including the first presumptive case in Renville County.

With three more farms infected, Kandiyohi County is up to 29 cases while Swift added its third and fourth and the second for Pipestone.

A total of 80 poultry farms in Minnesota have been hit by the virus impacting more than 5.3 million birds.
