Corn planting in Ohio makes progress

As of Sunday, May 3, the Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) reported 15 percent of the Ohio corn crop had been planted, up 13 points from the previous week. Compared to the 5-year average, corn planting is 15 points behind.

Soybean planting is underway with four percent of the crop planted as of May 3. Soybean planting is seven points behind the 5-year average pace.

24 percent of the wheat crop has jointed. 79 percent of the Ohio wheat crop is rated in fair-to-good condition.

Oats seeding is 60 percent complete, just five points behind the 5-year average. 13 percent of the oats crop has emerged.

83 percent of the state’s pastures are in fair-to-good condition.
