Now 10 cases of H5N2 in Wisconsin

Two more cases of the H5N2 avian influenza confirmed in Wisconsin on Monday.  One is a 182,368-bird turkey flock in Barron County the other is 127,970-bird commercial chicken farm in Jefferson County.  This makes 10 confirmed cases of the virus in Wisconsin: five in Barron County, three in Jefferson County and one-each in Chippewa and Juneau Counties.  Over 1.7 million birds have been affected by the infections; 1,112,970 chickens and 652,005 turkeys (includes 41,760 hatching eggs).

The two newest farms have been quarantined and the neighbors notified.  Depopulation will take place in the coming days with none of the birds going into the human food chain.
