May is Beef Month

Grilled Steak - National Beef Board

May is National Beef Month.  Indiana Beef Council executive vice president Joe Moore says it’s an opportunity to educate consumers of all ages about beef.  “We have reached out on some different things to schools to help people explain the beef production process to middle school and high school kids,” he says.  “We are inviting people to take part in the 30 day protein challenge that has been developed by the Beef Checkoff.”

Moore tells Brownfield May is also the official kickoff to the summer grilling season – and there are some delicious and affordable cuts available for the grill.  “Retail pricing on beef is up over a year ago,” he says.  “But there are some opportunities for consumers out there.  Alternatives to the usual t-bone and ribeye and filet mignon.  The Beef Checkoff has developed new cuts of beef like the Denver steak and the flat iron steak that grill very, very well and you can buy at a fraction of the price.”
