Missouri 4H Foundation donors honored at breakfast

University of Missouri Chancellor Bowen Loften hosts the ham breakfast, Columbia, Mo., Apr. 30, 2015.4H is an important part of the upbringing of many Missouri young people and donors to the Missouri 4H Foundation help to make that possible.  They were reminded of the foundation’s importance Thursday at the State Fair Grand Champion Ham Breakfast hosted on campus by University of Missouri Chancellor Bowen Loften.

“4H gives our youth in this state a framework for their lives,” Loften told Brownfield Ag News Thursday morning, “it gives them discipline, it gives them purpose and it teaches them leadership skills that are hard to acquire any other way, so it really tees them up for success not only while they’re proceeding through that, but also in life.”

Missouri 4H Council President Trent Ludwig, Apr. 30, 2015.It was echoed by Missouri 4H Council President, Helias High School Senior Trent Ludwig, who tells Brownfield that 4H has helped him because it involves setting and reaching goals.

“One of the best areas I’ve improved in with 4H is public speaking where I was giving speeches at 8-years-old, and that’s the kind of experience you can’t get anywhere else but in 4H,” Ludwig told Brownfield Ag News.  “It’s been a real blessing and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

In addition to funds raised from donors to the foundation, money is also raised through the auctioning of prize winning hams at the Missouri State Fair.
