A cool pattern across the eastern-half of the Nation

During the next several days, chilly weather will dominate the eastern half of the U.S., except across the Deep South. Freezes can be expected into early next week in many locations from the Great Lakes region into the Northeast. Meanwhile, a series of weather disturbances will help to draw markedly cooler air into the West. Five-day precipitation totals could reach 1 to 2 inches or more in the Pacific Northwest, Intermountain West, and from the Gulf Coast northward into the middle Mississippi Valley.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- to above-normal temperatures across Florida and the western half of the U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will dominate the eastern half of the nation. Meanwhile, near- to below-normal precipitation across the majority of the country will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in the Southeast and the Pacific Northwest.
