USDA streamlines Avian flu reports

Programs ICONThe USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has streamlined its reporting of avian flu outbreaks as more detections are expected during spring migration of wild birds.

The USDA says its announcements will come through each day at www.GovDelivery.com  as well as being posted to the APHIS website.

In the event of new H5N2 detections “in a new state and/or new flyway or detections of new strains,” APHIS says it will issue only a stakeholder announcement and post the findings on its Avian Influenza website.

The USDA says it has “the strongest A-I surveillance program in the world” which is a collaboration between federal, state and industry partners.
