The U.S. corn planting pace improved over the past week, but continues to trail the average pace with a wet start to the growing season in many areas. As of Sunday, the USDA reports 9% of corn is planted, compared to 2% last week and the five year average of 13%.

16% of the winter wheat crop has headed, compared to 15% on average, and 42% of the crop is rated good to excellent, unchanged from a week ago. 36% of spring wheat has been planted, compared to 19% on average.

The USDA expects the first soybean planting estimate of the season in next week’s report.
