More rain in the lower Ohio Valley

Across the Corn Belt, flooding remains a concern in portions of the Ohio Valley, and lingering wetness is sustaining slow planting rates across key southern production areas. Cool, dry weather dominates the upper Midwest.

On the Plains, Red Flag Warnings are in effect from Colorado to the Dakotas, as dry, breezy weather raises the potential for wildfire outbreaks. Dry, albeit milder weather dominates the southern Plains. In Kansas, winter wheat was rated 28 percent Good-to-Excellent, down 5 points from last week.

In the South, another day of scattered, locally heavy rain will limit opportunities for fieldwork while exacerbating local flooding. The heaviest rain (amounts totaling more than 2 inches) will likely be concentrated over the lower Mississippi Valley and the central Appalachians.

In the West, rain and snow showers are advancing through the Pacific Northwest. Dry weather dominates California and the Southwest, fostering rapid planting of cotton and other summer crops.
