Australia’s largest cattle company for sale

One of Australia’s largest cattle companies is on the market.  It’s big – 38,600 square miles – about the size of Hungary, and it’s getting the attention of foreign investors.

It was founded 116 years ago by Sir Sidney Kidman, and his descendants still control the company, Australia’s biggest landowner.

It has 11 cattle stations, and managing director Greg Campbell says it’s in excellent financial shape and debt free.  Campbell also says Kidman cattle are highly regarded and well known at cattle sales and feedlots within Australia and South East Asia.

Although the decision to sell has been passed by the board, many of the family shareholders are opposed to selling.

The potential sale comes amid a recovery in Australia’s cattle market.  Prices fell hard in the 2008 financial crisis but are coming back.
