RFS proposal by June 1: Final by November 30

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will publish the proposed Renewable Fuels Standard for 2015 by June 1st.  The final rule for 2015 and 2014 will be published by November 30th.

The dates are contained in a consent decree between the EPA and the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) and the American Petroleum Institute (API).

The decree would resolve a suit filed by AFPM and API in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia last month seeking to force EPA to set the required volumes of ethanol and biodiesel which must be used in the nation’s fuel supply.

EPA says the 2014 number will reflect the actual volume used in 2014.

Although not required to do so by the consent decree, EPA says it will also finalize the RFS for 2016 on the same dates: Proposal on June 1, Final by November 30th.
