U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says the U.S. will continue to press China to streamline its biotech approval process.

Vilsack says it will be the focus of a Strategic Agricultural Innovation Dialogue between the two countries later this year. “(We’ll discuss) how innovation can help both the Chinese and American producers—and not only create opportunities for themselves but also meet the rather significant global food challenge that we will face, and are facing, as world population increases,” Vilsack says.

The USDA and farm groups, like the National Corn Growers Association, are hoping the dialogue will lead to a synchronization of the U.S. and China’s biotech approval processes.
