Trade agreements cost jobs

Senator Sherrod Brown_webWhile a lot of support is coming from lawmakers for “fast track” Trade Promotion Authority for the president, an Ohio Senator says he’s not on board.  Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, says he’s excited about the export opportunities for trade with Cuba but he is not a fan of trade agreements and is opposed to granting the president Trade Promotion Authority.

“I think the evidence from NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), PNTR (Permanent Normal Trade Relations) with China and CAFTA (Central America Free Trade Agreement) and the most recent, South Korea Free Trade Agreement, the evidence is in, we’ve lost literally millions and millions of jobs and those are good paying jobs because of these trade agreements,” Brown said. “I’ve told the President I’m voting no personally and I’m involved in organizing and working with my colleagues on the finance committee in opposition.”

Senator Brown spoke with reporters traveling with Ohio Farm Bureau County President’s to Washington, D.C. March 18-20.
