The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is offering farmers an incentive to implement various nutrient management practices on their farm. The Nutrient Management Initiative uses field trials to evaluate nitrogen efficiency.

Participating farmers work with their crop advisor to set up the trials with the farmer receiving $1,000 compensation for their time and the crop advisor $500 per site enrolled.

The program evaluates not only the nitrogen rates, but also stabilizer products and the timing of applications.

The Nutrient Management Initiative is funded thru the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment.

To enroll, go online to mda.state.mn.us/nmi. The deadline is April 15th.
