Illinois farmland values a little down

Programs ICONIllinois farmland values have dipped slightly. Dale Aupperle, chair of the land values and lease trends project, says it’s a continuation of prices which began to flatten in 2013.

Aupperle tells Brownfield Ag News, “In general, land values across Illinois only sagged 1-to-3%. So, really, we’re kind of proud that the downtrend didn’t happen. It’s really a good report for Illinois farmland values.”

Aupperle says nearly 80% of Illinois farmland is being purchased by farmers or local communities.  He says profits earned in the last 10 years of the agriculture upswing are being used to buy that farmland.  He expects prices to stay steady even in the face of projected 20-to-25 percent declines in net farm income.
