Bills would change EPA’s science advisory board

Programs ICONThe U.S. House has passed legislation that would force changes in the EPA’s scientific advisory board. Many in agriculture have criticized the EPA’s decisions that affect farmers and ranchers.

The Republican sponsored bills, passed closely along party lines, would – among other things – prevent the EPA from issuing regulations based on data that has not been open to analysis from independent scientists.

Critics argue the bills are meant to protect industries affected by EPA regulations and hobble the agency’s ability to do its job.

Similar bills have been introduced in the U.S. Senate. The White House has threatened to veto the measures.
