The President needs Trade Promotion Authority

Speaking to County Farm Bureau Presidents from Ohio, U.S. Senator Rob Portman, a former U.S. Trade Ambassador says now that the President has asked for Trade Promotion Authority it’s time to get it done.

“Because I think he needs to have the ability to help our farmers by opening up markets,” Portman said. “And if you don’t have it, other countries won’t negotiate with us.”

Speaking with reporters, the Senator said he anticipates Congress passing Trade Promotion Authority sometime this summer.

To emphasize the importance of trade agreements, the Senator shared with County Farm Bureau Presidents that 47% of U.S. exports goes to those countries the U.S. has trade agreements with, which currently includes 10% of the world’s economy.
