DuPont watching EU’s new GM policies

Programs ICONNow that the EU Council of Ministers has approved a proposal to nationalize the cultivation of Genetically Modified crops in the European Union, DuPont Pioneer says its 1507 GM corn product should be approved.

DuPont submitted its cultivation application for the corn product 14 years ago and says it not only meets all EU regulatory requirements, it “has received seven positive safety opinions published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).”

DuPont says it will collaborate with EU member states that want to commercialize the product and “where severe target insect pest pressure is an issue,” once 1507 cultivation approval is granted.

A DuPont spokesperson tells Brownfield they are waiting to see how the new policies will be applied in the EU.
