There’s growing speculation about Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack’s political future.

The recent announcement that Matt Paul, a top adviser to Secretary Vilsack, is going to manage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in Iowa has fueled talk that Vilsack may be a potential vice-presidential candidate.

Jim Wiesemeyer, a policy expert with Informa Economics in Washington D.C., thinks it’s a real possibility.

“I think he’ll be among the top three potential vice-presidential choices that she’ll have on her list,” Wiesemeyer tells Brownfield.

Wiesemeyer says, politically, it would make sense.

“Iowa is one of those swing states, so he could be a key,” he says. “He’s also a polished speaker now, being the ag secretary for so many years. She could do far worse on that one.”

Wiesemeyer made those comments at the Nebraska Governor’s Ag Conference in Kearney. He was a speaker at the event.
