2014 U.S. pork exports top 4.8 billion pounds

U.S. pork exports last year were 4.803 billion pounds, according to a statement from National Pork Board.

For 2014, sales of pork and pork variety meats were valued at $6.674 billion, the fourth year in a row exports have topped $6 billion.

26.5% of pork produced in the U.S. was exported, adding $62.45 of value per hog marketed, and for every $1 million of pork variety meats sold, the live value of hogs went up $.20, according to a regression study by Iowa State University.

In terms of tonnage, exports increased 2%, while in terms of value, exports were up 10%.

Last year, more than 100 countries bought U.S. pork.
