A wide-range of weather in the Ohio Valley

Across the Corn Belt, a band of precipitation stretches from the Ozark Plateau into the Ohio Valley. The threat of flooding exists in parts of the Ohio Valley, especially where rain is combining with melting snow. The northern fringe of the precipitation shield features some snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Meanwhile, very cold weather is maintaining livestock stress across the upper Midwest, where sub-zero temperatures were reported early Wednesday.

On the Plains, sub-zero temperatures have returned to northern areas, including Montana and the Dakotas, where winter wheat’s protective snow cover is generally shallow and patchy. Meanwhile, precipitation accompanies a return to colder weather across the central and southern Plains. Most of the precipitation is falling as rain, although some snow has developed across Kansas.

In the South, heavy rain—combined with melting snow—is causing lowland flooding in Kentucky and environs. Elsewhere, warm, dry weather briefly prevails from coastal Texas to the southern Atlantic States.

In the West, dry weather accompanies lingering cool conditions. However, a warming trend is underway along and near the Pacific Coast, including much of northern California.
