Farmer: Price outlook “pretty bleak”
The price of commodities is an overarching concern among growers. Wayne Fredericks is president-elect of the Iowa Soybean Association and a director on the board of the American Soybean Association. He says the price outlook is pretty bleak, “The outlook at the moment is down, although we’ve seen a really good rally in soybeans the last couple of days. I personally, myself, took advantage of some of that rally.”
He says input costs are still high and it will take a while for them to adjust. Fredericks tells Brownfield Ag News he’s preparing for a tough year, “We’re making the necessary changes where we can. We’ve had some conversations with landlords and some of them has been willing to listen and, you know, adjust rents. I think that’s an important conversation to have.” For those whose landowners are unwilling to negotiate cash rents, Fredericks says, it’s a much tougher situation- and might force those farmers to back out. Brownfield interviewed Fredericks at the 2015 Commodity Classic in Phoenix, Arizona.
